Multi-instrumentalist James Clifford started Primaveras when he was a student at the University of Southern California back in 2016, and even though you’ve probably never heard of him, he’s received glowing reviews in some of the industry’s most well-read publications (Consequence of Sound, Billboard, Paste), and licensed his tunes to a pair of network TV shows, as well as a little coffee company called Starbucks.
His music is a dreamy mix of disco, psychedelic pop, and the type of Balearic headiness you’d find flowing from the speakers of a Malibu bar on an early summer afternoon. There’s a tinge of ‘80s nostalgia in Clifford’s DNA, but not enough to make the entirety of his catalog seem referential or mired in the past. “Find A Way,” his latest single, will give you the same shivers that Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” did back in 2013. Give it a spin and read more about Primaveras here.
Clifford’s forthcoming EP, Anthropometries, will be released August 7, but you can check out their first full-length, 2018’s Echoes in the Well of Being, on Spotify.
