The Band’s The Last Waltz Receives an Epic San Diego Homage

Two years after Mrs. Henry and a host of local bands paid tribute to the iconic album at the Belly Up Tavern, official recordings have finally been released.

On November 25, 1976, iconic group The Band played one of the most famous farewell shows in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Featuring a star-studded list of guest performers—Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell and Muddy Waters, to name just a few—the concert was filmed by Martin Scorsese and later released as a documentary (and multi-album set) entitled The Last Waltz. Fast forward nearly 40 years to the Belly Up Tavern in San Diego, where local band Mrs. Henry—named after a Band song from their Basement Tapes album—paid tribute to the concert with an ensemble concert of their own.

Over 30 local artists joined in, including members of The Schizophonics, Sacri Monti, and Louis XIV. The 31-song album is out now on Blind Owl Recordings, and you can also listen to the tracks on Mrs. Henry’s Spotify. The full film will be premiering at the Oceanside International Film Festival on Sunday, August 4 at the Brooks Theater. You can purchase your tickets here.
