Monday Moods: “Friends & Relations”

Alt-pop vibes from emerging male singer/songwriters.

One month ago, in our Dream Weavers Monday Mood, we featured five tracks from some of our favorite emerging female vocalists. One month later we return the favor, giving a little shine to the fellas, starting with synth-pop artist Geographer (aka Mike Deni), whose next album, Down and Out in the Garden of Earthly Delights, is out November 12. Says Deni of “Never Let You Down,” “It’s probably the most sultry song on the album. The verses are about that delicious drink we all adore, which is 1 part desire and 2 parts insecurity, which we usually sip at the beginning of a romantic relationship.” Next up is “Thinking Type” from Justus Proffit, who released his second album, Speedstar, at the end of last month. The LA artist is a fixture in the city’s underground DIY scene, often throwing events in his living space/studio, and his debut LP, LA’s Got Me Down, was one of the best indie albums of 2019.

20-year-old multi-instrumentalist and multi-disciplinary artist Garrett Seamans (aka carwash), released his debut EP,  soap water, last Friday to critical acclaim from the likes of Atwood Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. The music Seamans creates is influenced in part but not limited to: the emo and indie rock of the ’90s and the early aughts, sunrises spent on the San Diego coast, his cinematographic work, high school romance, and the need for a language more accessible than words themselves.

Born in Australia but based in Los Angeles, Blake Rose has made a few appearances on Monday Moods, but “Casanova” (out now on AWAL Recordings) is the latest effort from his forthcoming debut EP, A World Gone By, set to drop on October 8. Rose’s guitar-driven take on existential pop songs is a breath of fresh air in a sea of mainstream sameness. You can check out the video for “Casanova” here

LA artist Cale Tyson released “Alone,” his first single release in more than two years, earlier this spring but we’re just getting around to featuring it now. The song was produced by Tyson himself and recorded at Lucy’s Meat Market in Los Angeles, CA. The video, which you can watch here, was directed by Manuel Mancilla and was shot in San Buenaventura, Mexico.
