Detailing the soul-crushing awkwardness that stems from running into your ex, and your ex subsequently in the arms of your former best friend, “Someone New” from LA-based singer/songwriter Mara Connor is a lovely dirge brought to life by a beautifully shot music video. Fans of dream pop rockers Trespassers William, also from Southern California, will really dig Connor’s hazy vocals and the song’s patient sensuality, and collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Langhorne Slim adds a thoughtful twang to the track’s DNA. Throw this one on the record player after you’ve poured two fingers of Bulleit and are ready to settle in for the night.
“Someone New” is also the first release on Side Hustle Records, the brand spankin’ new label from longtime PR company Big Hassle, so look out for more from that imprint in the near future.
