How a Norwegian Got the Blues in San Jose

He only moved to California in 2001, but Kid Andersen’s passion for West Coast blues is pure Americana.

One of the best and most respected music artists in California lives in San Jose. And he’s from Norway. Born and raised. But it’s the blues that runs deep in his veins.

Back in his native country, Christoffer “Kid” Andersen’s talents caught the attention of a blues guitar teacher, who encouraged him to pick up traditional blues music. By age 21, he was in the States joining Terry Hanck’s band and entrenched in the West Coast blues scene. He’s recorded with Charlie Musselwhite’s band, toured with Elvis Bishops and has been nominated for several Blues’ Music Awards, winning best contemporary blues album for Musslewhite’s Delta Hardware.

Kid makes his home in San Jose with his wife Lisa, and is also the CEO of Greaseland Studios, where he has produced more than 100 albums. Hear this California original get greasy in his studio during this amazing session originally produced by KQED.
